What are tuberous breasts?

Tuberous breasts are a congenital condition and affected people can often feel embarrassed and self-conscious, experiencing some stress and anxiety with the need to hide their appearance.

It is called tuberous, or tubular, because it is in a way similar to the tube instead of the normal teardrop breast shape. Constricted breasts are another term for the condition.

Examples of tuberous breast conditions

Most tuberous breasts are underdeveloped, and elongated, with a high and tight breast crease and herniation of breast tissue through an enlarged areola.

It is often associated with breast asymmetry, as one breast may be normal and the other one tubular or both are tubular, with one worse than the other.

The condition can range from mild to severe leaving the affected person feeling self-conscious and anxious about their look.

Can tuberous breasts be fixed?

While very little can be done to change tuberous breasts without surgery. An experienced plastic surgeon like Miss Breahna can sculpt your breasts back into a more normal shape.

Miss Breahna offers tuberous breast correction along with other breast surgery and breast reconstruction procedures at the Grosvenor Hospital (part of Nuffield Health) in Chester, serving patients in Cheshire and the north west.

Common risks are bruising, swelling and temporary numbness. Infrequent risks are infection, bleeding (haematoma), delayed healing, poor scarring and asymmetry.

How much recovery time is needed?

Recovery from this breast surgery may incur a period of two weeks recovery time to allow for successful healing. Time off work may be required.
