Breast Asymmetry Surgery

Breast Asymmetry Surgery

The aim of Breast Asymmetry Surgery is to improve the symmetry of uneven breasts, with regard to size shape and nipple position.

Whilst breast asymmetry is a common condition that is not often noticeable and has no significance, there are some cases where one breast is a significantly different size than the other. The affected person can be left feeling self-conscious and embarrassed by their appearance. Major differences often justify corrective surgery. Correcting breast asymmetry will not only help you improve your appearance, but can also provide a boost to your self-esteem and confidence.

Each case is different and Miss Breahna will discuss the surgical options that best suit you. The treatment options for asymmetric breasts could be:

  • A reduction to the larger breast
  • Inserting an implant into the smaller breast
  • A combination of an implant in one breast and a reduction / lift to the other breast
  • Both breasts receiving implants of different sizes when an increase in size of both breasts is desired.

Breast Asymmetry Recovery

Whichever option is chosen, a general anaesthetic will be used and you can expect to stay in hospital overnight. There will be a period of 1 – 2 weeks for gentle recovery which will require reduced activity levels. You may need to wear a supporting surgical bra for up to 6 weeks, with full results expected in around 6 months.

Follow-up appointments will be arranged at 1,2 and 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year post surgery to closely monitor your physical well-being.

Frequently asked questions

If you have one breast that is a significantly different size or shape to the other breast, then you are likely to be a candidate for Breast Asymmetry Surgery. The treatment option that is best suited to your situation will be discussed at a pre-operative assessment.

This treatment will be carried out under a general anaesthetic. There will be some discomfort for a couple of weeks after treatment, but a course of painkillers will be prescribed

The effects from this procedure could vary depending on what type of operation you undergo. Generally, the surgery will incur swelling and bruising, easing over a couple of weeks. Infrequent risks are bleeding (haematoma), infection, loss of nipple, delayed healing and poor scarring, all of which will be discussed with you at a pre-operative assessment.

Breast Asymmetry procedure will incur a period of 2 weeks recovery time to allow for successful healing, and time off work may be required. Driving will be possible after 2 weeks. It may need up to 3 weeks before travelling abroad and up to 12 weeks before returning to the gym.
