What is the cause of excess breast tissue in males?
Gynecomastia is the medical term for excess breast tissue in men.
The extra tissue is usually a localised development of fatty tissue and glandular tissue which can affect both or just one side.
The problem commonly develops during the teenage years as hormones change during puberty. Usually, the condition resolves itself but sometimes excess tissue remains.
Older men also have a tendency to develop gynecomastia due to falling testosterone levels.
Obesity and excess fat in the upper chest area can cause this condition.
However, in some cases, there is no known cause.
Why should I have male breast reduction surgery?
This is an elective, cosmetic procedure and there is rarely a medical need for the surgery.
However, many men affected by gynecomastia find that the negative effect on their self-esteem is significant and affects their everyday lives.
Affected individuals may find it difficult to find clothes that fit and may seek to hide the issue by wearing loose-fitting tops.
The self-consciousness caused by excessive male breast tissue may result in a reluctance to participate in social activities or even to engage in intimate relationships.
The excess tissue may also cause functional issues and discomfort during sport.
Miss Breahna is very experienced in this area and understands how transformative the procedure can be.
She has helped many male patients to recover their body confidence by performing male breast reduction surgery to produce a more contoured chest area and an improved body shape.
How is male breast reduction surgery performed in Cheshire?
The details of the procedure will depend upon the cause of your condition.
During your consultation, Miss Breahna will perform a detailed assessment of your chest area and take a full medical history.
Her investigations will allow her to determine whether your excess tissue is composed of glandular tissue or fatty tissue.
If the cause of your excess tissue is mainly due to fat deposits, she may decide that liposuction is the most appropriate surgical technique.
However, if your issue is glandular in origin then she will use a different process to remove the glandular tissue. Removing fat alone may actually make the condition worse.
A specialist surgeon like Anca Breahna with two decades of surgical experience can also use a combination of the two surgical procedures to give you the best result possible.
How long does male breast reduction take?
Your surgery will be performed under general anaesthetic and will take between two and three hours.
An overnight stay in hospital will be required.
Is gynecomastia surgery safe?
This is a popular surgery with excellent results. However, even with an expert like Miss Breahna, any surgery carries a risk of bleeding and bruising as well as the usual risks inherent with a general anaesthetic.
The risks and benefits of surgery will be detailed during your initial consultation with Miss Breahna.
How long will it take to recover from gynecomastia surgery?
Miss Breahna will monitor your progress at regular follow-up appointments for the first year after surgery.
You will need to take at least a week off work and allow yourself sufficient rest and recovery time to achieve optimum results.
Miss Breahna will advise you when it is safe for you to return to driving and playing sports.
All patients need to wear a supportive surgical garment for up to three months after surgery. This will reduce swelling and give support to your chest area as it heals.
When you have fully recovered and you see your new, sculpted chest all the precautions will have been worth it and your self-confidence will soar.
How much does male breast reduction cost in Cheshire?
The cost of surgery will depend on the techniques or combination of techniques that Miss Breahna uses and the complexity of the surgery.
Your specific requirements will be discussed at your pre-operative consultation and Miss Breahna will confirm the cost to you at your initial consultation after she has finished her examination of your condition.
However, the cost of the procedure typically starts at £3 800.
