What is Lipo?
Lipo, you may have realised we prefer the full name liposuction, is a process for removing stubborn pockets of fat.
Small cuts are made, through which a cannula is inserted, a device is then attached to the cannula and the fat is sucked out.
This is a relatively invasive procedure and one that is performed under general anaesthetic.
It will typically require an overnight stay in hospital – in Chester, this would be at the wonderful Grosvenor, however in some cases, for smaller treatment areas, it can be as a day case.
We will outline some of the areas of the body that can be treated below, but one thing to note is that lipo is not a treatment for overall weight loss or to address obesity.
Lipo treats stubborn pockets of fat that are hard to shift. We are all prone to these, however hard we exercise, however good our diet it is often the case that far will remain in one or two areas.
Lipo exists to treat this, it can remove the fat via a procedure that has been used many thousands of times in Chester alone.
What Can Liposuction Treat?
Liposuction is suitable for many parts of the body, essentially most parts where we are prone to localised pockets of fat.
The following list is not exhaustive, but gives a good guide as to the sort of areas that can be treated.
However, suitability would always be discussed in a detailed consultation – no respected surgeon will ever recommend a procedure that is not truly in a patient’s best interest.
Fat can be removed from:
- Arms
- legs
- tummy / abdomen
- thighs (saddlebags)
- back
- buttocks
- bra rolls
- chin (double chin)
- overly developed male breasts
Benefits of Liposuction
The obvious benefit of lipo is the physical change, the fat is gone – for good. Good riddance!
The physical change can be superb, whether it is the abdomen, thighs, arms, chin or other.
That’s why you book in for lipo after all, you have an aspect of your physical appearance you want enhanced; that is what it achieves.
However, physical change can also lead to greatly improved mental health, confidence and self esteem. Having an aspect of your appearance that is a cause for concern can play greatly on our mind, the impact can be distressing.
The surgery can therefore remove this source of concern, the benefit to one’s confidence and happiness can then filter through to work, relationships, time with friends and all aspects of our life.
This, to be honest, is one of the great things about working in surgery – seeing the change it makes to someone. Not so much the physical change, but what it means to them as a person, how they start living their best life once more.
Everyone deserves to feel happy in their own skin.

About Chester
Chester is a beautiful walled city located within the county of Cheshire and on the River Dee.
The city was founded as Castrum, the Roman fort located there called Deva Vitrix – this was one of the main army camps in the UK. Deva then became a major settlement in its own right.
Chester has a long and rich history, it was given city status as far back as 1541 and its importance is shown by the castle and walls, these remaining among the most complete city walls in the UK.Â
The castle received numerous extra fortifications through the centuries, the initial castle built under the instructions of William the Conqueror.
Chester remained important through later centuries, for instance the nearby Newtown, with the Shropshire Union Canal, were key to distribution.
The city is now a popular one for tourists, this a key industry, so too are public administration and retail.
A large number of well-known celebrities and famous people were born in Chester, or lived in the city, these include Russ Abbot, Beth Tweddle, Ben Foden and many people’s favourite James Bond – Daniel Craig.
